The University of Virginia's Division of Student Affairs invites applications for a Program Coordinator for Student Engagement. The University’s mission to develop engaged citizen-leaders is the foundation of the Division’s work, which is guided by six core values – academic rigor, health and wellness, honor, public service, and student self-governance. The Division of Student Affairs consists of over 200 employees including: Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer; Student Health and Wellness; the University Career Center; Housing and Residence Life; Office of African American Affairs; and several units reporting to the Dean of Students – all working together, for and alongside students, to create the distinctive student experience for which UVA is known.
The Program Coordinator for Student Engagement serves on the team supporting students at the University of Virginia by promoting holistic leadership development, connecting students to resources, cultivating their passions, and building community. The Program Coordinator will manage the Student Engagement Marketing operations, and plan and execute programming across Grounds, particularly at Newcomb Info Desk and the Student Engagement Center. The Program Coordinator will also support the daily operations of Newcomb Hall by overseeing the Newcomb Hall Info Desk. The Program Coordinator in Student Engagement is considered part of the Event Staff team, which includes Event Management, Student Engagement, Newcomb Hall Info Desk, Newcomb Hall Service Desk, A/V services, and 1515 Student Center. The Program Coordinator will work mostly with the Event Staff team and units across the Division of Student Affairs to fulfill their duties. This position is a full-time, twelve-month University Managerial and Professional Staff position with benefits.
Newcomb Hall Info Desk
Manage day-to-day operations of the Newcomb Hall Info Desk, including but not limited to CIO print requests, lost & found, staff vehicle checkout, and addressing community needs.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Newcomb Hall Info Desk staff; roughly 20 students, including Event Staff Student Managers. Coordinate with Event Staff supervisors to recruit, hire, train, and supervise Event Staff Student Managers.
Develop and maintain Newcomb Info Desk standards, processes, and operations.
Initiate time-relevant communications for the Newcomb Info Desk operations.
Serve as a liaison for Newcomb Info Desk and Newcomb Hall standards, processes, and operations.
Student Engagement Marketing and Programming
Collaborate with the Associate Director of Student Engagement to manage and support the marketing and branding of all Student Engagement areas (1515 Student Center, Student Organizations, Leadership & Service).
Thoroughly develop and deliver marketing materials related to the Student Engagement brand, services, and opportunities, including but not limited to student organization support, leadership development opportunities, the 1515 student center, and community service.
Build and execute marketing strategies through research, benchmarking, and coordination with relevant stakeholders.
Utilize a variety of digital and traditional marketing channels to ensure maximum reach across the student body, including but not limited to Instagram, tabling, and newsletters.
Develop and implement activities and events at the Newcomb Info Desk and in the Student Engagement Center to promote opportunities for student learning, development, and University engagement.
Select, hire, train, and evaluate Student Engagement Program Assistants; roughly 2 students directly responsible for Student Engagement Marketing.
Provide support for Student Engagement programs and services.
Assist with University events including but not limited to summer orientation, Wahoo Welcome, Family Weekend, and Final Exercises.
Policy, Administration, and Unit Leadership
Assist in the facilitation of Student Engagement programs and events, which may include late nights and weekends.
Assess programs, events, and trainings for effectiveness, making necessary adjustments.
Assist with student support and continuity of University operations in the event of an emergency and/or related institutional closure.
Propose budgets, track expenses, and ensure adherence to set limits.
Assist in developing departmental goals, objectives, and budgets.
Serve on Office, Division, and University committees as assigned.
About the Position
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job will occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs. This position cannot sponsor cases for immigration now or in the future.
This position is in person on the UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA. This is an exempt-level, benefited position. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $50,000 to $55,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Required Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree.
Demonstrated commitment to community building.
Extensive work in marketing and communication, and student supervision.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities
At least 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and work alongside students in a highly student self-governed environment.
Understanding of student development, identity development, and complexity of social identities.
Ability to coordinate resources, evaluate information, and identify alternative solutions.
Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills, including handling multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, or other discipline.
Direct experience with marketing and communication, programming, and student activities.
Experience leading, hiring, training, and managing a team of either full-time or part-time staff.
