Job Description
Position Purpose
The Provost/Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (VPASA) reports to the College President, serves as the lead administrator officer of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs operations for the college, and has primary responsibility for leadership, management, strategic direction, policies, evaluation, and oversight for the academic affairs and student affairs divisions. The position is expected to provide the educational and administrative leadership to achieve a high standard of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, academic programs, student development, academic support, student services, student life, and faculty and staff professional growth.
The Provost/Vice President will provide the vision and overall guidance for both near-term and long-term college academic and student plans; provide leadership, support, and promote innovation on behalf of student success; development, interpretation, and implementation of College policy; budget, strategic planning, and explore resource development; and educational planning and new program development in an integrated instructional and academic support setting. The Provost/Vice President serves on the President's Executive Cabinet and provides broad advice and assistance to the President in establishing and meeting the strategic direction of the college. As a member of the president's senior administrative team, the Provost/Vice President represents the College as designated by the President for Minnesota State and external agencies and bodies and serves as a College officer/representative on public occasions. The person in this position serves on key College committees. The ideal Provost/VPASA combines both strategic thinking and strong execution skills across various forms of education styles as well as a clear and transparent communication style.
Position Responsibilities
Leadership of Academic and Student Affairs - Provide vision and leadership to ensure excellence in all academic and student affairs programs and services in the college and ensure that those programs and services meet the needs of the region and progressively advance student success.
Academic and Student Affairs Planning and Evaluation - Lead, direct, and support instructional and student services units in the planning, development, and evaluation of curriculum, services, and programs to ensure that academic program, student development, and student support needs are met.
Enrollment Management - In partnership with college administration, provide leadership for academic and student affairs in the college aimed at increasing persistence, retention, and completion for students.
Program Development and Innovation - Develop new programs which meet the needs of public and private agencies, in addition to expanding joint programs and articulation agreements with other educational institutions.
Budget Management - Develop annual budgets for academic affairs and student services divisions. Plan and monitor expenses so that spending is within the approved allocation.
Human Resource Management - Provide supervision, evaluation, and professional development for the administrative, faculty and staff assigned to instructional, academic support, and student services units.
College and Community Involvement - Provide leadership to the over governance, planning and decision-making process for the campus, and interactions with the greater community.
System-wide Involvement - Participate in system-wide planning and resource development as they relate to instructions, student affairs, and academic support services.
Statewide and National Involvement - Participate in statewide and national organizations and conferences.
Salary Range:
$119,222 - $155,384 Annually
(Salary Placement will be done at time of hire.)
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree.
At least five years of higher education administrative experience at the Senior Executive level or at least five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education in a role reporting directly to the President of the institution.
Leadership experience and/or familiarity working in a collective bargaining and shared governance environment.
Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity to the diversity of college students, staff, and faculty.
Demonstrated commitment to student success and academic excellence.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and communication skills, as well as public presentation skills.
Experience in the areas of leadership, planning, development, staffing, budget management, and supervision.
Experience in higher education curriculum and program development, assessment, and evaluation.
Evidence of ability to deal with demanding and high stress situations, multiple priorities, and varied situations simultaneously.
Experience being able to apply strategic thinking and strong execution skills across various forms of education styles.
Demonstrated success in building and maintaining partnerships and relationships across various stakeholder groups.
Preferred Qualification
Doctoral degree.
Experience within the Minnesota College and University system.
Knowledge and commitment to fulfilling the mission of a community and technical college that is student centered.
Knowledge and understanding of higher education accreditation, federal and state higher education laws and regulations, and student records.
Record of leading innovation and organizational change as it relates to curriculum, programs, and student services.
Experience teaching at college or university level.
Experience using data-driven evidence and proven practices to analyze problems/issues and implement solutions.
Experience being able to delegate, collaborate, and promote consensus in accomplishing the college's strategic plan.
Experience being able to create trust, teamwork, cooperation, and cohesion among faculty, staff, and administrators.
Experience working in a unionized college or university setting.
