Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Student Activities directs, plans, and oversees student club events, activities, and programs for KCU-Joplin students. Collects and accurately preserves data on student club events and outcomes, and collaboratively supports all Student Services events, activities, and administrative responsibilities within the department of Student Affairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports Student Events and Activities - Directs the development, coordination, and implementation of student club and special interest group events, programs, and activities:
- Advises student club and special interest group leaders in idea formation, problem-solving, planning, marketing, and budgeting to create beneficially successful club events, speakers, and volunteer activities
- Maintains regular contact with student club and special interest group leaders to support decision-making while facilitating training and experiences that support student development and club success
- Works with various KCU departments to coordinate logistical support for student activities, e.g., AV support, catering services, facilities support, event set-up requests, etc.
- Manages KCU Joplin student club budgets, reimbursements, and expense reports
- Supports Student Services and University events, including, but not limited to, Student Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, and Commencement
- Collects, prepares, reports, and accurately preserves pertinent documentation related to student club and special interest group events, activities, and programs
- Facilitates, reports and assesses Student Affairs events, wellness activities, and student club initiatives to ensure best practices are being utilized
- Represents the University favorably and per established Core Values and expectations
- Performs other duties as assigned
Maintains Departmental Records and Tracks Student Activities - Provides support and record-keeping for documentation and reporting of student activities and events:
- Manages the collection and processing of required documentation for approval of student activities, e.g., meeting room requests, club forms, approval documentation, etc.
- Records and archives detailed student information, including program activity reports and database information, and facilitates retrieval of information in a timely manner
- Monitors grades of student leaders to ensure compliance and eligibility in academic standing
- Assists with communications to students, student groups, and campus constituents in matters related to student activities
- Monitors student communication to ensure compliance with University policy and to ensure support is in place and available for approved events
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, education, communications, public relations, or related field
- Two years of experience in event coordination, customer service, or project management
- One year in higher education is a plus. One year's experience in student event planning and execution is preferred
- Must have excellent professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for student engagement, development, and success are essential
- Must be student-centered, patient, team-oriented, and flexible
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, across-campus, and with community partners
- Must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, and able to function optimally while producing results and working independently
- Must be detail-oriented and highly organized with excellent follow-through.
- Must possess strong computer skills and ability to utilize various computer software programs efficiently
- Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines while balancing multiple projects and performing assignments accurately
- Requires the ability to serve the University and its students in a kind, professional, caring and effective manner
