Job Description The Hesburgh Libraries are committed to cultivating a world-class research and learning ecosystem for our staff, faculty, and students. The University of Notre Dame's ability to remain at the forefront of world-changing research and teaching is intimately tied to our ability to support current and cutting edge technological solutions.
To that end, the Enterprise Systems team is looking to hire a Sr. Systems Engineer to continue fostering a technical environment focused on providing highly scalable, available, and secure applications and systems.
Our mission is to provide seamless, automated infrastructure support for our stakeholders and campus partners. We leverage cloud-first design and rigorous DevOps principles to build scalable environments that take the complexity out of the deployment process. Through ongoing automation and thoughtful architecture, we ensure our partners have the reliable tools they need to deliver their best work.
To continue driving our efforts, the Sr. Systems Engineer will:
Champion Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (AWS CDK written in TypeScript) to ensure 100% reproducible and version-controlled environments
Orchestrate Containerized Workloads: Manage and scale Amazon ECS clusters, ensuring high availability and performance
Manage Hybrid Compute: Oversee a diverse fleet of EC2 (Linux/Windows) and VMware instances, balancing legacy support with modern cloud-native migrations
Automate Everything: Build and refine end-to-end CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and AWS Developer Tools (CodePipeline/CodeBuild) to enable seamless, automated deployments
Maintain Data & Storage Continuity: Maintain and optimize a variety of data layers, including S3/EFS for static content and managed database environments (MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
We're looking for someone who is:
Motivated to grow and expand their technical expertise
Curious and self motivated to explore, research, and implement new technologies and approaches
In tune with industry-relevant IT trends. We encourage the safe and accountable usage of generative AI tools.

As a professional in the ever-changing fields of technology and education, the selected candidate can expect to continue to develop in these areas through structured professional development programs, experiential learning, and self-directed growth.
