Associate Vice President for Engagement
Kennesaw State University (KSU), a world-class institution in Kennesaw, Georgia, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next associate vice president for engagement. This is an on-site leadership role.
KSU is a comprehensive university located on two suburban campuses in Kennesaw and Marietta, Georgia, northwest of metro Atlanta. They are making an impact across the region, the nation, and around the world. As the third largest university in Georgia, KSU has nearly 48,000 students enrolled in over 190 undergraduate, master's, doctoral degree, and certificate programs.
Reporting to the vice president of student affairs, Eric Arneson, the associate vice president for engagement (AVP) at Kennesaw State University is a key leader within the division of student affairs. They provide direction and oversight for a comprehensive student engagement portfolio for the university, which includes the departments of student engagement and support, parent and family programs, student leadership, and student activities.
The salary range is $120,000-$130,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
Qualifications A master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in student affairs, higher education leadership, behavioral sciences, or other related fields is required. Also required is a minimum of 10 years progressive leadership experience in higher education, specifically in university or college student affairs
A terminal degree, such as a PhD, EdD, or JD, in a related field of study, and previous experience in senior student affairs leadership are preferred.
In addition to the qualifications stated above, key stakeholders identified the following capabilities and attributes of a successful candidate:
Proven experience supervising and developing staff, including performance management, coaching, and mentoring.
Management experience in budgeting, research, and customer service.
Experience and abilities to support students and staff from various perspectives and backgrounds.
Proven leadership in developing and implementing student-focused initiatives, fostering collaboration, and guiding others toward shared goals.
Effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively on a team.
Strong problem-solving abilities, independent judgement, and organizational skills.
Exceptional communication (both verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and managing large-scale programs and events.
Strong decision making skills with the ability to balance organizational priorities and individual staff and department needs.
A strong attention to detail and follow-up skills, including customer service, phone, and email etiquette.
A track record of leading with a student-first philosophy, ensuring decisions and initiatives reflect student needs and perspectives.
Possess a high level of knowledge regarding best student engagement and leadership practices.
