Defiance College is a liberal arts college located in Northwest Ohio with a national reputation for its programs in service learning and civic engagement. We are accepting applications for a Director of Student Activities/Hall Director position. The Director is a member of the student life staff reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Student Belongingness and Director of Residence Life.
The Director of Student Activities/Hall Director works with campus initiatives to promote student involvement through coordinating, marketing, and implementing a broad range of student-centered activities and programs. Duties include: advise and provide training and guidance to the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Student Senate; provide guidance and leadership training for members and advisors of student organizations; collaborate with the Director of Residence Life on RA training and residence hall programming and participate in campus-wide and Student Life initiatives. The Director will be responsible for assisting with student engagement activities, including connecting former student athletes with other activities on campus to encourage student leadership and development. This individual will also serve as a member of the Title IX pool and the Professional Staff On-Call rotation.
The individual will be responsible for creating and maintaining a positive, student-centered community within the residential community they supervise which fosters respect, dignity, and collegiality among residential students and will be responsible for directly supervising the resident assistant staff and managing the daily activities and residential programs within their designated area.
This is a full-time, live-in, 12-month position which requires evening and weekend work. The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in student personnel or a related field, and prior experience in student affairs and programming. A master’s degree and experience with residence life and crisis management preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, positive attitude, an understanding of college student development, and a sense of humor are required.
