The Assistant Director-Technology & Production Services is responsible for all technology, A/V and lighting systems within HSC managed spaces, including inventory, repair, maintenance and associated training for departmental personnel. Provides technical assistance and support to facility occupants and campus partners. Assists clients with recommendations, pre-event planning, and execution of event-related technology, A/V and lighting. Ensures HSC managed spaces are safe, secure and properly maintained through collaboration with campus partners and external vendors. Functions as lead technical expert for HSC and the Division of Student Affairs to assess audio visual technology trends and issues and define technical solutions to meet university audio visual technology needs.
This position reports to the Director of Hill Student Center Operations. Key job responsibilities for the Assistant Director Technology & Production Services are:
35% Technology/Audiovisuals- Manage all technology/AV/lighting systems within HSC managed spaces, including routine maintenance, repair, replacement and upgrades; facilitate inventory and all associated warranty information and contracts/service agreements; serve as liaison to technology support partners and AV contractors; collaborate with leadership to determine technology/AV/lighting needs and recommend changes/improvements to identify, correct and prevent operational issues; assist leadership with capital improvement planning related to all technology/AV/lighting systems; make recommendations to occupants and stakeholders to increase efficiencies in systems and serve as subject matter expert
30% Event Support- Consult with clients and make recommendations regarding technology/AV/lighting and support services for events; assist with pre-event planning, coordination and execution of events taking place within HSC managed spaces; provide technical assistance to staff and clients as necessary to ensure an exceptional event experience
20% Facility Management- Oversee all aspects of facility operation including maintenance, housekeeping, pest control, repair/renovation projects, and safety and compliance; inventory/maintenance of all related equipment; serve as liaison to various support personnel across the university including Facilities, Grounds, Building Services, Campus Dining, Auxiliary Services and UABPD;
10% Training & Development- Develop and facilitate training for all technology/AV/lighting systems within HSC managed spaces for full-time, para-professional and student personnel; Develop training manuals, videos and other materials related to tech/AV/lighting systems; Maintain professional certifications, skills and knowledge as required
5% Other- Other duties and special projects as assigned
Due to the nature of events, room set ups and turns, and of the public-facing environment of HSC, at times the Assistant Director- Technology & Production Services may assist the department in matters outside the aforementioned job responsibilities.
Master’s degree in a relatable field and one (1) year of relatable experience OR Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of relatable experience required. Years of experience may be substituted for required degree.
Must have exceptional organizational skills and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Attention to details required to be successful in this role. This position will attract and retain business for the Hill Student Center; must have a strong customer service acumen and enjoy building relationships with campus partners and clients. A demonstrated commitment to diversity and customer service as well as strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate must also have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
