UConn Stamford is seeking a Program Coordinator for Student Activities to manage the areas of recreation, leadership development, community development, and student engagement. The incumbent will work in a team led area and serve as the primary contact for programmatic, annual events, and leadership efforts within Student Activities, including intramurals, annual events and programs (Homecoming, Spring Week, Halloween, and Senior Ceremony), Leadership Certificate Series, oversight of the campus UConn mascot, supervision of approximately 15 student staff, and management of the Game Room. The incumbent will also assist with on-call duty rotation for Residential Life; facilitating registered student organization leadership training workshops; reviewing potential new organizations; meeting with student(s) and registered student organizations in advisement settings; providing administrative support to the Student Activities office; and supporting campus-wide involvement initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates all programs in the assigned area of responsibility, which may include extensive planning, negotiation, and problem solving, including:
Facilitates leadership programs in compliance with Student Activities Leadership & Organizational Development, including Leadership Certificate Series, Leadership Talks, and individualized workshops upon request.
Manages the campus UConn mascot and internal appearance requests according to direction from University Communications.
Organizes bus trips in and out-of-state for city exploration, Homecoming game, and Spring Weekend.
Coordinates intramural sports leagues and tournaments occurring throughout the academic semesters while maintaining relationships with external partners for facility usage.
Oversees the campus game room operations and space.
Supervises and trains approximately 15 undergraduate and graduate students to assist in the implementation of campus events and activities.
Assists with advising assigned student group(s) in planning and managing their policies, programs, and general operations, in accordance with University policies and procedures, state statutes, and the guidelines and rules of the legally authorized governing body.
Is responsible for a thorough knowledge of applicable policies, regulations, and laws, including those of the legally authorized governing body; monitors compliance with and provides guidance regarding such policies, regulations, and laws.
Serves as a liaison between the Stamford campus and the Department of Student Activities at the Storrs campus.
Participates in overall department activities, such as evaluation and development of overall programs and policies, outreach programs, or promotional activities; recommends improvements or changes to increase effectiveness or meet changing needs.
Assists with coordination, administration, and implementation of new student orientation.
Serves on the on-call duty rotation for the Stamford campus Residential Life, and responds to emergency calls; this is an off-campus position and incumbents must live within 50 miles of campus.
In the absence of the other Student Activities Program Coordinator, may perform activities and responsibilities as appropriate.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field and three to five years of professional experience in a responsible position related to student personnel, counseling, or similar work which demonstrates knowledge of leadership development programs and the assigned student group(s) OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with crisis management or serving as an on-call staff.
Experience supervising and training student staff and volunteers.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups, or groups based on identity and/or life experience.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and programming skills.
Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and communication skills.
Ability to work irregular and flexible hours; evening and weekend hours are required.
Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in higher education and student affairs or related field.
Experience advising college student organizations.
Experience planning small and large events for college students.
Demonstrated knowledge of program development and implementation.
Experience as a college student organization leader.
Experience with problem solving and crisis management at events.
Experience with IMLeagues and/or managing college intramural sports.
Familiarity with state and local policies, procedures, regulations, and laws pertaining to the assignee's student group(s).
Demonstrated experience with Event Management Systems (EMS).
