Job Summary/Basic Function:
Consistent with the college's mission of providing a useful education for engaged citizens, the Assistant Director will play an integral role in the development and implementation of community initiatives that provide students with practical leadership experiences in managing the complexities of living together. As a member of the Campus Life staff, the Assistant Director in a live-in role is a highly visible and student-facing role focused on supporting students through their developmental path at Dickinson. They are responsible for enhancing the quality of the residential experience through the development of an atmosphere that promotes learning and fosters a strong sense of community and accountability. Through supervision of student staff, programmatic interventions, advising, mentoring of students, and administrative processes, the Assistant Director contributes to the development of students' interpersonal, leadership, and civic skills and fosters a healthy environment that supports the intellectual and academic life of the campus.
Primary Duties Include
Oversee a residential environment of 300 -700 students, ensuring the provision of an academically, intellectually, and socially involved community. This includes living in student housing; supervision and evaluation of Community Advisors and Resident Advisors or House & Apartment Managers; as well as advising of community governance groups.
Interact daily with residents by assuming an active and visible role in the residential community. Respond to student concerns through engaging in conversations, providing referrals, and collaborating with offices on and off campus to assure the concerns are addressed.
Serve in a collateral assignment which may include but is not limited to working with the campus programming board, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Clubs & Organizations, or other Campus Life needs.
Recruit, select, supervise, and evaluate paraprofessional staff. Develop training and ongoing development for paraprofessional staff to enhance the intellectual life of the campus and develop students' capacity for effective leadership.
Implement response to crisis within residential communities in collaboration with appropriate college partners. Fulfill 24/7 on-call responsibilities in rotation with 6 staff members for the residential campus which includes being available at all hours for crisis intervention and support, and acting as the administrator on call during the academic year.
Work collaboratively with other college offices/departments, community partners, and neighbors to coordinate the development of partnerships for delivery of programs and service to residential areas. Act as a liaison with the community, students, faculty, staff, and parents in facilitating the residential program and student housing.
Other Duties May Include:
Assist with Campus Life special event planning and coordination. Participates in departmental, divisional, or college committees as appointed. Participate in the student conduct resolution process by facilitating the informal resolution process and administrative hearings for assigned cases as needed.

This is a live-on position supervising residential staff.
The position is customer-facing which requires tact and time management.
This position requires flexible hours for nights and weekend commitments.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration or related field
One year professional or two years part time graduate experience in residence life or housing required.
1-3 years relevant experience.
Valid Divers license. (Operators must have been in possession of a valid operator's license for not less than two (2) years and the license must have been in good standing without interruption during that time period)
