The Hill Student Center Student Employment Coordinator is responsible for creating meaningful employment opportunities and experiences for UAB students. This role provides support and oversight for all student employment needs for the facility. The Student Employment Coordinator will assist the department with a wide variety of supervisory duties in the areas of student employee onboarding, training, scheduling, and development. The role will be responsible for personnel as assigned, including a team of 50 student staff. The Student Employment Coordinator contributes to an environment promoting and fostering student learning and development, and establish a staff culture that supports the Hill Student Center mission, vision, and core values.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the planning and implementation staff recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, evaluation, and on-going development of 50+ student employees in the areas of Guest Services, Game Room, and Facility Services to ensure consistent employment experiences are had.
Plan and coordinate the comprehensive, multi-day training for all student employees taking place each Fall and the monthly all-staff professional development meetings alongside the Assistant Director of Business Operations and Employment.
Assist in the management of inventories for event equipment and student employee uniform pieces. Order to replenish as needed.
Stay abreast of any facility cleaning, organization, and inventory projects and delegate them to the student employee team as time allows.
Oversee the use of multiple student employee platforms including scheduling and communication platforms such as When to Work, 7PointOps, and Teams.
Work alongside the Office Support Specialist to process all student employee hiring documentation and processes.
Attend tabling events and job fairs to promote the services and opportunities of working at the Hill Student Center. Develops promotional materials to recruit exceptional student employee candidates.
Assist in the development of student employment expectations and policies in the form of a handbook that is updated yearly.
Collaborate with other across the Division of Student Affairs and University of Alabama at Birmingham to provide meaningful and developmental experiences for student employees.
Interact with and provide exceptional customer service to Hill Student Center guests. Actively search for ways to better the Hill Student Center experience for patrons.
Support the execution of more than 8,500 events on campus annually, including indoor and outdoor locations.
Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary Range: $40,000 - $44,000 Commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
The preferred candidate will have experience with facilities management, supervising and building successful teams of student employees, event planning, and departmental administrative responsibilities.
Must have a valid driver’s license for operation of a motor vehicle in Alabama and possess an acceptable driving record.
Must have exceptional organizational skills and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Attention to details required to be successful in this role. This position will communicate with student employees daily and will need to be able to set and maintain expectations in a consistent manner that aligns with the student development model. A demonstrated commitment to diversity and customer service. Due to the nature of the set ups and quick turnaround time of the HSC, the Student Employment Coordinator may assist staff at times. The successful candidate must also have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. This position may be required to work some late nights and weekends to support the student employee team as building operations and events call for.
