The University of Akron is looking for a dynamic and innovative leader to join our team as the Director of the Student Union and Conference & Event Services. In this exciting new role, you'll have the opportunity to build and shape a brand-new department focused on providing centralized "one-stop-shop" conference and event management services for a wide range of internal and external clients using university facilities. From meetings and conferences to special events and large-scale annual events, you'll oversee the coordination of all logistical support to ensure seamless and unforgettable experiences. Responsibilities
Supervising the work activities of Conference & Events Services staff and Student Union operations staff (including maintenance and technology, game room, building operations, and student union scheduling). Providing vision and leadership to staff by establishing fiscal and programmatic goals and benchmarks.
Directing the daily activities of the department while performing various administrative tasks and planning functions.
Developing and evaluating the department’s master planning initiatives that pertain to student union renovations and Conference and Events Services long range planning.
Preparing the department budget and monitoring spending while developing revenue enhancement strategies and expenditure controls
Maintaining a close, positive relationship with internal stakeholders such as Residence Life and Housing, Dining Services, Athletics, Student Recreation and Wellness Center, University Scheduling, Hower House, EJ Thomas, General Council, Risk Management and college and division event planners.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three (3) years' experience in either student affairs, student union facility operations and management, conference and event management with a minimum of three years of supervising both professional and student staff (or equivalent); experience in developing, overseeing and managing a budget and an understanding of the delivery of superior customer service to a wide variety of constituents.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree; an articulate understanding of the mission, culture, climate and environment of a metropolitan university and experience working with students of diverse educational, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds; excellent written and verbal communications skills, computer literacy and demonstrated literacy and demonstrated leadership; ability to work nights and weekends as scheduled.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for this position starts at $70,000 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications.
