The Assistant Director of Student Engagement has authority over the leadership, strategic planning, administrative oversight, and development of two key areas of student engagement: Student Activities and the Sorority/Fraternity Community. This position directs a comprehensive student activities/co-curricular opportunity by developing, executing, and assessing a diverse schedule of entertaining and educational engagement initiatives throughout the academic year. The position strategically plans, assesses, and develops new opportunities of engagement for students and has the authority to adjust co-curricular offerings as needed. Additionally, this position has authority over and manages the strategic direction for all initiatives within the Sorority and Fraternity community. This position is also responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring and success of campus and divisional goals of student activities and sorority/fraternity life. This position creates dynamic, accessible student-centered opportunities of engagement that positively affects
retention of our student population. As an emerging university, student engagement is constantly evolving, and this position is responsible for the advancement strategic direction of involvement practices. This position is worked primarily on campus and requires frequent evening and weekend hours balanced by a flexible work schedule.

Student Activities and Collaborations
- Lead long- and short-term strategic visioning and planning for student engagement, advocate for departmental needs and resources to support student engagement
- Direct and manage large-scale, traditional events and functions on campus, including, butnot limited to, Clyde’s Kickoff, Disorientation Week, Homecoming Weekend, Winter Welcome Week, Commuter Appreciation Week, and other related co-sponsored events
- Manage the planning, operations, execution, assessment, and promotion of events and initiatives that support and enhance the experience of commuter students, as commuter students are the majority student population at UCCS
- Lead all collaboration efforts with students, administrators, faculty and staff to identify academic and DEI-focused events and initiatives throughout campus in an effort to engage students building awareness and deepening understanding of, diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Identify and engage Student Life in partnerships with other campus departments that contribute to the overall student engagement experience
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of University Center Operations to develop student union late night engagement opportunities in Clyde’s Campus Pub, UC Game room, and other meeting spaces
- Develop strategic thematic co-curricular opportunities and points of engagement during certain times of the year that provide out-of-state, first year students with engagement opportunities in order to foster a positive experience and strengthen out-of-state student retention
- Co-Chair the annual Significant Speaker event planning committee, as well as set the vision, lead the planning and oversee all logistical aspects of event
- Provide intentional, ongoing co-curricular engagement for the UCCS post-traditional student population
Co-Curricular Pathway Management and Engagement Promotions
- Provide leadership, vision and strategic planning toward the development of co-curricular channels and opportunities, and its methods of engaging students in traditional and non-traditional ways
- Direct all aspects of the Clyde’s 5 Co-curricular pathways initiative through oversight, promotion and assessment of all domains and items within each domain for reporting and recognition purposes
- Provide timely updating and maintenance of the Student Activities calendar, event posts in Mountain Lion Connect, the Student Life engagement platform, text messaging, social media, bulletin boards, permanent signage, and othercampus advertising outlets
- Review all marketing, advertisements, and promotion materials in advance of posting, publishing, and distributing—ensuring accuracy and professional presentation of all Student Life communications and promotions
- Oversee the department’s text messaging system, and seek out other opportunities to promote engagement to students and staff.
Sorority & Fraternity Life
- Lead long- and short-term strategic visioning and planning for sororities and fraternities, with best practices and current trends.
- Interprets and evaluates pertinent policies and procedures for Greek affiliated organizations and guides new groups through the development/recognition process.
- Cultivate and expand relationships with local advisors and chapter headquarters in order to provide joint and aligned support for our student organizations
- Provide advisement, guidance, and support for the primary councils at UCCS: President’s Council. Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and multicultural Greek council(s)
- Lead and direct all FSL-related education and outreach initiatives to include, but not limited to, Greekend, Greek Awards, Meet the Greeks, New Member Conference, President’s Dinner and other community initiatives
- Develop channels for sorority and fraternity organizations in developing partnerships with other university stakeholders, departments and staff members
- Serve as the primary point of contact and investigator, in collaboration with the Dean of Students office, for intake of concerns related to sorority and fraternity conduct
- Develop and execute, with the support of each individual chapter, opportunities for continuing education, advocacy, and service that accomplishes the mission(s) of individual organizations, and helps build awareness within the college community
- Direct all recruitment activities, advisement, scheduling and support
Student Life Assessment and Student Retention
- Direct and lead assessment and benchmarking initiatives for Student Activities
- Establish student learning outcomes for all campus traditions and events, as well as assess the impact of outcomes on student development
- Lead post-event assessments to ensure student engagement channels are meeting needs of students and meeting the goals and expectations of the department
- Align programming with the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) Standards
- Compose and publish monthly assessment reports including both quantitative and qualitative assessment of activities and the Sorority/Fraternity community.
General Student Engagement and Student Life duties
- Serve as a member of the Department of Student Life leadership team, overseeing operations, functions, and development of student engagement.
- Ensure that campus activities represent goals and values of the campus.
- Provide timely communication (e-mail, phone, social media, face-to-face, and meetings) ·
- Serve as the Student Life representative on the Campus Programming Team
- Schedule and participate in weekly event scheduling and logistics meetings with Event Services
- Actively participate in all University Center and Student Engagement meetings
- Serve on divisional and campus-wide committees as assigned
