Day in the Life:
The Director, University Center is a dynamic position that will handle a variety of tasks in any given day. Daily activities can range from event planning, committee work, budget development or review, policy enforcement, emergency response (fire alarms, medical emergencies, etc.), and maintenance. The Director supports the department's efforts implementing events, supporting clients, maintaining the building itself, and leading a large student employee group. As the primary campus meeting/event facility, the Director often fields extraordinary event requests and mediates competing space requests amongst campus partners. As such, building positive, collaborative working relationships across campus and within the division of Student Engagement and Success is key to being successful as director. Coordinating event support services with campus and contracted partners, such as custodial services, maintenance, IT, and catering, is a regular activity.

Responsibilities:
Direct ongoing process improvement, assessment, and strategic planning and direction to ensure the advancement of the facility and its services.
Develop strategic plans and goals in line with the institution and division to ensure alignment with the advancement of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Ensure effective crisis management strategies and planning and implement appropriate and consistent risk mitigation efforts.
Manage and ensure that the University Center is a space focused on student engagement and success including facilities usage and design.
Manage effective strategies for coordination, design and maintenance for all building support functions including custodial, maintenance, landscaping, and after-hours management to ensure consistent and high-quality operations within the facility.
Manage relationships with building tenants and negotiate appropriate use of building space.
Develop and manage departmental budget of approximately $2.4 million.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate 4-5 full-time staff, 2 graduate assistants, and approximately 60 student employees.
Develop and oversee department guidelines and processes, especially for space reservations, audio-visual support, and event setup and breakdown.
Serve as the liaison to University Services (dining/catering services, university ID card, mail services, bookstore, etc.), Administrative Operations (custodial, maintenance, landscape, construction, project management), and other contracted vendors on the use of facilities, policies, construction issues, facility maintenance, and upgrades.
Create, develop, and coordinate the planning and administration of facility operations.
Serve on university committees, including but not limited to Facilities Use Committee, Student Engagement and Success Council, and other special project teams or working groups.
Serve as a member of the Division’s leadership team and work to fulfill the mission and long-range goals of the Division and University through the services and programs of the department.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Business or closely related field.
Ten (10) years of related experience to include five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in student union setting, campus event/conference management, or facility renovation/construction projects.
Additional education may be used as a substitution for the minimum experience requirement to include:
Master’s degree and eight (8) years of related experience.
Doctoral degree and six (6) years of related experience.
Supervisory experience.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), assessments, and databases.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to be able to work directly with and collaboratively with other campus departments and to work in a dynamic, changing and diverse environment.
Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Business or closely related field.
Experience with increasing level of responsibility in a higher education setting.
Experience in student union setting, campus event/conference management, scheduling/reservations software, and facility renovation/construction projects.
Experience overseeing operations of a comprehensive student union program to include program development and supervision; administration of budget; strategic planning and assessment; risk management and facility maintenance and operations.
