Detailed Job DescriptionThis position reports to the Associate Director, New Student Orientation and is a key role in the Center for Campus Life. This position provides program development, logistical and communication coordination and virtual media support to our New Student Orientation program. Additionally the incumbent will provide support for other department initiatives, with a special focus on the Center for Campus Life's marketing and digital presence, including web support and oversight for student organization marketing efforts, in collaboration with divisional Marketing and Communications. This position requires a dynamic up and coming Student Affairs professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, an understanding of college student development, and strong administrative, organizational, and problem solving abilities. The Assistant Director provides leadership and strategic direction to a team of para-professional (graduate assistants) and approximately 10 undergraduate students. This position works closely with campus partners, community members, and student leaders to assist in creating a vibrant, engaging culture that enhances the student experience.
- Manage key components of the New Student Orientation Program, including communication and content development for virtual orientation platform. NSO is offered for new entering students in the fall and spring semesters as well as transitional programs and services managed by NSO throughout the year.
- Manage the Center for Campus Life marketing and communications including direct support for student clubs/organizations and department programming such as Fall Fest.
- Supervise a team of undergraduate and graduate students who support Campus Life and student clubs and organizations in the areas of marketing and communication, design, photography, and digital content.
- Provide direct support for student programming and campus events sponsored or supported by the department, including evening and weekend events during major weekends (Fall Fest, Brick City, etc). Advise student organizations and leaders as assigned. Support the CCL leadership team on annual projects as assigned.
Department/College DescriptionMinimum QualificationsEducation/Experience:Bachelors Degree in business administration, marketing or related field
2-3 years higher education work experience.
At least one year of staff supervision (including student supervision).
Skills:- Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences.
- Experience with staff development and supervision
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with student leaders
- Demonstrated ability in designing, implementing, and evaluating programming related to the student experience
- Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in complex situations with competing priorities
- Ability to maintain attention to detail and task completion in a fast-paced, student focused environment.
- Ability to exercise judgment and independent initiative; handle time sensitive matters.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of constituencies within and outside of the university setting
- Ability to understand, review, and interpret legal and risk management policies, compliance expectations, and university guidelines and procedures
- Budget experience and acumen
- Experience with digital content development.
- Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals
- Possess a deep understanding of a diverse student body and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and cross-cultural issues.
- Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn
