POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Assistant Director of the Waldron Campus Center is primarily responsible for the daily administration and operations of the Waldron Campus Center Complex (WCCC) which includes the Waldron Campus Center and Beyer Hall.  This includes staff supervision, event planning and execution, oversight of technical aspects of the operation (sound, lights, technology, etc.), as well as overall facilities management.  This position receives administrative direction from, and reports to, the Director of the Waldron Campus Center. The incumbent must be able to support and promote the University’s inclusive mission, its Catholic identity, its diverse student population, and its general programming to support and promote community building on campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Responsible for the coordination, development, and maintenance of a comprehensive student employment program. This includes staff selection, training, development, coaching, scheduling, and evaluation of student staff.  The student staff consists of approximately 20-25 students from entry-level staff to progressively more responsible student management staff, interns, and graduate assistants.
2. Oversee and coordinate event management for multiple campus facilities, with special focus on the Waldron Campus Center Complex (Beyer and Waldron); ensures appropriate and timely interaction with facility users and event planning; assists with the design and enforcement of WCCC and Gannon University policies and procedures. In partnership with the Director, provide top-quality customer service by researching, proposing, and implementing best-practice initiatives; collect and analyze patron data, usage information, etc.
3. Ensures that student staff is empowered and trained to manage and oversee the WCCC at all operating times—which also include evenings, weekends, break periods, etc. This position is ultimately responsible for ensuring that staffing levels are appropriate and that WCCC operations are optimally staffed.  In partnership with the Director, ensure an administrative presence at events where appropriate. 
4. Serves as technical support for university events and projects outside of the WCCC, including but not limited to commencement ceremonies, student orientations sessions, Preview GU, First Year Student Convocation, events in the Recreation and Wellness Center, Global Student events and events connected to Gannon’s auxiliary enterprises such as The Knight Club and Fresh Café.
5. Assists and supports the Director with the administration and management of appropriate budgets; research and implement incremental sources of revenue; ensures appropriate cost controls are in place; acts as signatory on designated budgets and cost centers as approved by the Director.
6. Coordinates and provides event support for other University partners such as, but not limited to, Dining Services, Marketing and Communications, President’s Office and Student Clubs and Organizations.  Provides event information to Campus Police & Safety and Campus Services.  Ensures the safety and security of the WCCC is of paramount importance and ensures that student staff is trained appropriate in this regard as well.
7. Maintains a watchful eye on the WCCC facility, overseeing routine maintenance and replacement of WCC assets and special event support inventory including but not limited to presentation and A/V equipment, staging, building finishes, fixtures, installed technologies and miscellaneous equipment.
8. Participates as necessary and appropriate in training, development, and certifications which are career-advancing and partnership-focused. Stays abreast of current industry trends and best practices by participating in professional associations and other opportunities.  
9. Represents the Waldron Campus Center on various University committees, task forces, and workgroups.
10. Supervise the Coordinator of Event Planning & Logistics in the absence of the Director.
11. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope, responsibility, and requirements of the position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director of Waldron Campus Center, the Assistant Director leads and supervises the student staff to provide room setups and technical support for meetings and special events.  Both verbally and by example, the Assistant Director informs and teaches the student staff the skills needed to execute duties with a high-quality standard of service with an engaging, friendly, helpful, and relaxed attitude.  The Assistant Director also supervises the Coordinator of Event Scheduling and Logistics in the absence of the Director.

Bachelor’s degree required; at least two years experience (as a student or a professional) in a higher education setting/role (related-experience will be considered); master’s degree may substitute for previous experience.

Master’s degree in student affairs or higher education preferred; previous experience in a student union/center is highly desirable.

Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy University environment. Work includes moving and transporting equipment. equipment. Occasionally sitting at a desk or table; occasional lifting 25 lbs. or less; intermittently sitting/standing; hearing and visual acuity within normal range; ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch occasionally; high degree of mobility required.
