Western Washington University is currently searching for a new Student Representation and Governance Coordinator.
The Student Representation & Governance Coordinator provides comprehensive advising focused on leadership development, public and civic engagement models, and representative and advocacy-based models in governance and public offices for the Associated Students of WWU governing bodies, the structures that support their election and civic engagement programs. Areas of advisement include AS Executive Board, AS Student Senate, the AS Office of Civic Engagement (as.wwu.edu/oce/), and upholding representation and governance by the AS governing bodies (as.wwu.edu/gov/).
WWU Associated Students Governance structure is comprised of 28 elected positions. This includes the Executive Board of Directors (7 members) and our Student Senators (21) representing 8 of the colleges and students at large. These two governing areas work together to support students.
The Office of Civic Engagement exists to provide the resources, services, and support necessary to ensure student representation in decisions that impact students at the university, local, state, and federal levels; to promote effective citizenship and civic engagement through services, programs, and collaboration.
WWU is seeking a candidate who has experience and demonstrated knowledge of civic engagement and working within governance models. At Western, we offer exceptional professional development opportunities to staff including conference attendance, committee work, and opportunities to work on projects with a variety of campus partners. Starting wages between $51,824-$57,583 based on experience, with a competitive benefits package.
Bellingham, WA is a mid-size city on the northern coast of Washington state that has all the conveniences a large city offers and is in close proximity to Seattle (90 miles south) and Vancouver, Canada (50 miles north). - Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs Administration, Education, Political Science, Management, Psychology, or another field of study that supports the work assigned.
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible administrative experience working in education, student activities, student affairs, leadership development, government, military, or related field.
- Experience effectively advising students and/or young adult leaders of programs, clubs, or organizations to support personal and professional development as well as leadership in decision-making.
- Demonstrated knowledge of civic engagement and governance models.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with and support individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to creating a culturally responsive environment for staff and students, the delivery of programs that support diversity objectives, and the development of cultural engagement and responsiveness skills.
- Experience in developing and presenting training programs for students, young adult leaders and/or employees.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising personnel or mentoring others to achieve goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, including written and interpersonal.
