Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Catering Director, the incumbent will supervise the day-to-day operations of the catering department, office, and events. The incumbent of this position must have the ability to accurately follow procedures, Daily responsibilities include maintaining inventory of products and supplies, ensuring proper event display, monitoring dining room and serveries for proper appearance, and overseeing the set-up, delivery of service, and clean-up of events. Essential duties include communicating with the kitchen concerning orders, enforcing proper sanitation standards, and leading and training a staff of temporary and student hourly employees. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising the preparation of food and beverages, directing part-time staff to follow health and dress codes, interviewing and hiring student staff, scheduling staff based on unit needs and staff availability, disciplinary implementation, and evaluating, coaching, and mentoring student staff. Essential administrative duties consist of updating and maintaining purchase order templates, verifying order receipts, assisting the catering director in meeting the unit's financial goals, and monitoring student employee payroll and hours to ensure staff availability and to maintain compliance with the budget and sales. In addition to the over site of daily catering events the incumbent will also assist the unit department with concessions events for sporting events held on campus.
Hours of Operation: 20|20 Catering is a 7-day operation, with unit hours ranging from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. As a result, the individual in this position may be required to work evening and/or weekend hours. The working hours of this position are not determined at this time. In addition, hours may vary depending on operational needs.
Salary: This position comes with a competitive salary and benefit package. The initial hiring range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hour; This position is in Salary Grade 18 - ($15.38 min; $25.29 mid) - the salary grade and its range can be found HERE.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for this vacancy must:
- Demonstrated experience in catering, event planning or event supervision
- Demonstrated experience in scheduling staff
- Demonstrated experience working in a large volume and fast-paced environment with gross sales in excess of $1 million
Preferred Qualifications
Highly qualified candidates will also have:
- Demonstrated ability of working independently, without continuous supervision, in a hospitality environment
- Demonstrated experience interviewing, hiring and on boarding new staff
- Demonstrated experience reviewing/approving payroll
- Demonstrated experience with staff training, assigning tasks and employee development
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT)
- Demonstrated experience using computerized ordering, inventory and billing systems such as Food Service Suite (FSS) and Event Management System (EMS) or similar
- Demonstrated experience working in a higher education setting. Further experience working in higher education setting in a food or similar area is strongly preferred
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Business, Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or related field
- ServSafe Sanitation Certification or equivalent
