The Department of Student Engagement, part of the Division of Student Affairs, at Winthrop University is searching for an Associate Director of DiGiorgio Campus Center Operations. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Engagement, Diversity & Inclusive Excellence, the incumbent is responsible for day-to-day operations at the DiGiorgio Campus Center.
The 128,000-square-foot DiGiorgio Campus Center brings the heart of the Winthrop University campus to Scholars Walk. Within its walls are an array of facilities where members of Winthrop’s myriad student organizations will hone their leadership skills, as well as amenities that will beckon the entire campus community to gather, relax, and learn more about each other and the world around them. In addition, Student Affairs staff offices also are located in the DiGiorgio Center to provide convenient points of service to students, along with the campus Post Office and Winthrop Bookstore.
Highlight amenities include Dina's Place, multi-vendor food court, Richardson Ballroom for large functions, Starbucks coffee shop, and much more. The DiGiorgio Center is connected to the Lois Rhame West Health Physical Education and Wellness Center by a distinctive open-air plaza and gathering place known as the Community Concourse. The Concourse allows the facilities to function in tandem.
Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates student and professional Campus Center operations staff.
Serves as primary administrative liaison with academic units and administrative departments and for high-profile university events occurring in the Campus Center.
Serves as space use manager for Tillman Auditorium, Student Activities Center, Amphitheater and Shack.
Responsible for developing and implementing facility policies and procedures and interpreting them for users.
Inspects the facility daily, initiates work orders and coordinates with Facilities Management regarding special events, custodial needs and maintenance issues.
Works closely with the Office of University Events and other stakeholders to manage all aspects of external customer rentals and collaborates with campus partners and leadership to enhance revenue-generating opportunities.
Responsible for Campus Center security, including security cameras, keys and card access management.
Maintains a working knowledge of state and university policies and regulations as they relate to facilities management, student activities, labor, purchasing and contract negotiations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary
Knowledge of current practices in the field of student center/union management, including facility and staff supervision and event planning and oversight.
Ability to make decisions based on sound judgment; manage multiple events, tasks and activities simultaneously; and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Exceptional organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community representatives.
Ability to hire, train and supervise staff.
Sufficient technical skills to master equipment and software necessary to perform job duties at a high level.
Ability to lift 25 pounds for event set-up.
At least two years of experience managing student center/union facilities; experience supervising full-time staff; and experience working with budgets and event reservation programs.
Master’s degree in student personnel, educational administration or closely related field.
