Job Description: Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director of Student Activities serves as the primary administrator for leadership and volunteerism programs in the Student Activities department. Programs include the Dynamic Leadership Institute (DLI), Leadership trainings, Midnight on the Hill, Student United Way, Big Red Blitz, Alternative Breaks, Campus Ministries Roundtable, Homecoming, Parent and Family Weekend, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
- Supervise Coordinators of Student Activities, Leadership & Volunteerism
- Administers and oversees all components of the Dynamic Leadership Institute, a four-phase program with 1,000 students per year
- Delivers the Dynamic Leadership Institute to extended campuses
- Manages the leadership and volunteerism budgets
- Administers the volunteerism program including Midnight on the Hill, Student United Way and monthly drives
- Sponsors the state High School Leadership Conference
- Assists in coordination of LeaderShape program
- Organizes Alternative Break program
- Conducts assessment of leadership and volunteerism efforts
- Represents department at WKU student recruitment programs
- Serves on the Homecoming and Parent & Family Weekend Committees
- Generates revenue for leadership initiatives
- Assists with the Keown Plaza and other fundraising efforts
- Develops summer leadership initiatives
- Conducts assessment of leadership and volunteerism efforts
- Serves on the Tailgate Team
- Responsible for late night and weekend Student Activities programming

- Proven ability to provide leadership that results in program expansion and growth
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends
- Proven presentation and facilitation skills combined with sound instructional abilities
- Ability to create and maintain university and community partnerships
- Ability to assess, strategically plan, and implement desired programs
- Ability to create an environment that embraces teamwork, cooperation, and collaboration among students, faculty, and staff
- Willingness to embrace change while moving progressively forward towards defined goals
- Strong presentation skills
- Understanding of student programming and student development
- Event planning skills required
- Ability to budget
- Appreciation for volunteerism/leadership development
- Ability to attract participants and volunteers to the program
- Must be a problem solver, critical thinker and energetic. Strong planning skills are essential.
Job Requirements:- Masters Degree
- At least two years of experience in student life programming
