Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.
Student Service Information Technologies (SSIT) provides IT support to several divisions, including SCL, and allows numerous operations to continue to run effectively while using hundreds of different IT systems. SSIT is comprised of five different service teams: Client/Desktop Services, Infrastructure Services, Business Applications & Development, IT Service Management, and Business Application Services.
As part of the Student Services Information Technology (SSIT) senior management team, who have adopted a cloud-first approach, the Infrastructure and Application Development Manager provides key strategic direction and creates vision and drives direction for standardized application development and vended application implementation methodologies that will enable the delivery of technology for our customers, including but not limited to students, faculty, and staff. This position will lead a service group of application developers and DevOps engineers developing in an AWS cloud infrastructure and is responsible for application development deadlines across multiple initiatives or projects by assisting in the prioritization of projects/tasks and serving as the resource management of their team. This role will regularly research innovations in technical architecture, recommend implementations, and design new procedures and technology integrations to improve the efficiency, reliability, and security of the applications we support.
A successful Infrastructure and Application Development Manager would possess an eagerness and energetic ability that shows initiative and a willing to manage a very large collection of pre-existing complex web applications and data integrations. Utilizing excellent communication and collaboration skills, this position would work as an effective team leader dedicated to meeting a diverse set of requirements. A successful Infrastructure and Application Development Manager would also demonstrate an ability to develop strong working relationships and collaborate with other IT units on campus to leverage strengths and efficiencies of IT units to contribute to our success.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field with at least five (5) years of working experience in a complex environment with large and small-scale systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated effective communication skills both oral and written including the ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language as will as proven leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional education, including Master degree, and experience in a higher education environment and/or in cloud development infrastructure utilizing Amazon Web Services preferred.
While this position is located in Ithaca, New York, the successful applicant will be able to work remotely (or on a hybrid work schedule) and can be located anywhere in the U.S as business allows. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working outside New York State. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
