University Unions is a self-funded auxiliary enterprise which serves the campus through its three historic unions (Michigan Union, Michigan League, Pierpont Commons), academic meeting and dining facility (Palmer Commons), Center for Campus Involvement (over 1,400 student organizations and hundreds of programs), and works in close partnership with Conferences & Event Services and Michigan Dining to provide student-focused and customer-oriented service to the campus community. Responsibilities include managing operational excellence in all aspects of building operations as it relates to Audio/Visual needs and event execution for University Unions. You must demonstrate and provide superior customer service to conference clients, building tenants, hotel guests, and all users of the facility and its services. You will provide guidance to full-time AV Technicians, and student AV assistants. You will work with the building Directors, Student Life Facilities, Conference and Event Services and Michigan Dining to ensure best customer services to event clients and guests. Be a functional supervisor to set up student employees, student building managers and the custodial staff. You will report to the Assistant Director of University Unions.
Provide guidance to full-time AV Technicians located in the Michigan League and Michigan Union.
Provide indirect management to student Audio Visual Assistants (~15), and Student Event Set Up staff (~40).
With AV Technicians, hire and train Event Operations student employees to work in University Unions venues.
Maintain and troubleshoot audio and video equipment.
Connect, tune and configure equipment to ensure successful events.
Provide support and assistance in event preparation.
Plan and Management (20%)
Manage equipment lifecycle.
Assist Conference & Event Services staff in planning Audio Visual needs for large or unique events.
Maintain knowledge of trends and future equipment innovations or standards, create an annual purchasing budget.
Provide guidance for event operations capital projects, installation and implementation.
Building Oversight Responsibilities (20%)
Work with the building operations team to provide coverage.
Provide support across University Unions facilities.
Assist Assistant Director of University Unions to develop and participate in building coverage rotation.
Partner with members of University Unions staff, Michigan Dining staff, Conference and Event Services staff, and the students, faculty, staff, tenants and guests of University Union facilities to ensure the highest quality in facilities and services.
Help with coordination and maintain safety/security systems and emergency preparedness procedures.
Financial/Budgetary Responsibility (20%)
Oversee the annual budget for all responsibilities, analyzing and monitoring expenditures on an ongoing basis.
Manage the purchasing, inventory, and upkeep of event operations equipment, supplies and furnishings according to purchasing policies.
Analyze staff payroll and report it on time.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Minimum four years of successful experience in college unions, facility management or related is required. This must include successful experience with personnel management, coordinating daily operations of a complex facility, including coordination of event setup and AV operations.
Advanced technical knowledge of how to set up, install and troubleshoot audiovisual equipment (sound systems, microphones, data projectors, video conferencing, cameras, computers)
Experience as a team-oriented leader. Appreciation for working with a diverse population.
