The Assistant Director will improve and enhance the Greek Life experiences of students at Duquesne University. This position participates in divisional strategic planning and mission/vision development, and works with the fraternity and sorority community through hands-on advising, innovative and creative programming, and educational initiatives. This position facilitates educational and programmatic initiatives as well as advises fraternities and sororities and governing councils to complement our academic mission, leadership development, service to community, character development, personal development and life-long bonding.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advises the entire Greek Life community, comprised of almost 20% of the student body, working on development, maintenance, training and education. Plans and implements programs and activities in the areas of scholarship, leadership, risk reduction, recruitment, alumni development, spiritual well-being and wellness issues. Oversees personal development/alcohol education programming, and hazing issues; assists Greek organizations in the development of non-alcoholic programming; and enforces the organizational, State, and University guidelines. This includes investigating and helping to adjudicate Greek community matters. Oversees all communications, including promotional and marketing materials, both written and electronic. Oversees office website development and social media accounts. Plans and oversees the operation of tuition billing for more than a dozen Greek organizations that have an interest in adding dues to student accounts.
REQUIREMENTS: Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field from an accredited institution.
Professional work experience in and understanding of Greek Life or Student Involvement required. This includes knowledge of the principles, practices, legal issues and current trends related to Greek Life.
Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field from an accredited institution.
Alternately, the successful candidate will possess any equivalent combination or training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Knowledge of the principles, practices, legal issues and current trends related to Greek Life.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Collaborative leadership style with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
Sensitivity to the rights of individuals to be treated with dignity and respect as related to the mission of the university.
Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the mission and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.
